June 26, 2014

Deepening the firm’s ties to the entertainment industry, Fox Rothschild LLP is pleased to welcome senior litigator and former general counsel for Miramax Film Corp. Alan R. Friedman as a partner in the New York office.

“Alan has an extensive background working in the motion picture and television industries and will be a tremendous asset and resource to our national entertainment group,” said Darrell D. Miller, chair of Fox’s entertainment department.

With more than 20 years of experience, Friedman focuses his entertainment practice on contract matters, copyright and trademark disputes and participation/royalty claims involving motion pictures, music releases and television shows.

Friedman served as general counsel to Miramax Films until 2005, when the company’s founders separated from the company. He had previously represented Miramax in business and litigation matters as its outside counsel. Friedman regularly reviews films and marketing materials prior to distribution to evaluate and mitigate the risk of trademark and copyright infringement, defamation and right of publicity/privacy claims. In addition, he has served as litigation counsel for Miramax, The Weinstein Company and other major and independent film distributors in connection with many film projects, including The King’s Speech, Shakespeare in Love, Chicago, Drive, Grindhouse, Loser and many others. These cases have included copyright, idea theft, accounting, breach of contract and other claims. As general counsel, he reviewed the company’s films and marketing materials prior to distribution to evaluate, assess and mitigate any risk of infringement, defamation and right of publicity/privacy claims.
