Harter Secrest & Emery Adds New Counsel – Jack Thomas

The law firm of Harter Secrest & Emery LLP is pleased to announce that John E. (Jack) Thomas has joined HSE’s Intellectual Property group as Counsel. Mr. Thomas has substantial experience as in-house corporate patent counsel, and he has held positions in law firms and as an examiner at the US Patent & Trademark Office.

His experience includes: global patent procurement; due diligence for licensing, acquisitions and other technology transfers; patent clearances; IP agreements; litigation and dispute resolution in global IP matters; and client counseling. Mr. Thomas has worked in a wide range of technical areas, including pharmaceuticals, biomedical devices, consumer healthcare products, organic and polymer chemistry, optics, and manufacturing and process engineering.

“Jack brings a wealth of experience, from having previously acted as in-house counsel to being a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office,” said Brian Shaw, a partner at HSE and leader of the Intellectual Property practice group at the firm. “He will be a tremendous benefit to clients with his in-depth experience and knowledge.”

Mr. Thomas received his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law, and his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from University of Maryland at College Park. He resides in Pittsford, NY with his wife and children.
